The 2011 summer edition of Microsoft's quarterly manufacturing industry magazine, PRIME, just hit the shelves this week and what a scorcher! In a cover story outlining how Microsoft have utilised PTC technologies in the production of the world's fastest selling consumer electronics device – Microsoft Kinect – Michael Baseflug, mechanical engineering manager for Kinect, provides some unique insights into the complexities of the project. The summer issue also holds the findings of the recent Microsoft discrete manufacturing cloud computing survey conducted in in March 2011 by ORC International. This survey brings together opinions of 152 IT and business decision makers within automotive, aerospace, high tech and electronics, and industrial equipment manufacturers in Germany, France and the US to determine what key issues they face today and what technology they feel is going to change their operations.
From a Microsoft Dynamics ERP POV, Rakesh Kumar and Georg Reindl explain how Dynamics AX is helping manufacturers in the food and beverage industry to not only manage the production of potentially thousands of different products, but also meet customer demands for fast deliveries and lower costs, comply with increasingly stringent government regulations, better manage their supply chains AND address ongoing changes in consumer buying habits. Plus, with the launch of Dynamics AX 2012 on the horizon, Kumar and Reindl also highlight some of the key features and enhancements available in the new release to help manufacturers across the entire sector speed up their key processes, make them easier to manage, more predictable and all as they are generating greater insight into their business.
