A couple of weeks back, I was asked to look over a couple of the top ten support issues received for CRM v3.0. Among them was an error relating to the registration wizard. Looking up the newsgroups, I also saw that there were quite a few people who faced the same error and didn’t know what to do.
They were receiving an error message when they tried to register Microsoft CRM 3.0 using the Microsoft CRM Registraion Wizard:
“The wizard requires an Internet connection to complete registration. Activate your Internet connection if it is disabled. If you do not have an Internet connection, contact Microsoft Business Solutions Support at 1-800-456-0025 to complete registration.”
The confusing part is, they HAD internet connection.
Well, there may be 2 causes to look out for in this situation:
- There may be incorrect information in the Registration wizard. A valid state/province must be provided in the State/Provice field on the Partner Company Information screen.
- Microsoft .NET 1.1 is not able to successfully autodetect proxies. You have to make sure a valid proxy client is installed and/or the settings in Microsoft IE indicates a valid proxy server.
In the case of Cause #1, follow these steps:
- On the error page in the Registration wizard, click Back three times.
- In the State/province field on the Partner Company Information page, type the name of a valid state or province.
- Resubmit the registration. To do this, click Next on the remaining pages of the Registration wizard.
In the case of Cause #2, follow these steps:
Verify that the settings for the proxy software are set up correctly. The following lists give sample settings for several situations where ISA Firewall Client is used as the proxy. Select the settings for the option that best fits your situation.
Note: To access the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box in Microsoft Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
- Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.
Option 1: Depend on ISA Firewall Client
- The proxy client is enabled.
- The Automatically detect settings check box in the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box in Internet Explorer is selected.
- The Use a proxy server for your LAN check box in the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box in Internet Explorer is not selected.
Option 2: Question ISA Firewall Client
The ISA client is enabled.
- The Automatically detect settings check box in the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box in Internet Explorer is not selected.
- The Use a proxy server for your LAN check box in the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box in Internet Explorer is selected.
- The IP address of the ISA client or proxy client appears in the Address box in the Proxy server area of the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box in Internet Explorer.
Option 3: Do not trust ISA Firewall Client
- The ISA client is disabled.
- The Automatically detect settings check box in Internet Explorer is not selected.
- The Use a proxy server for your LAN check box in Internet Explorer is selected.
- The IP address of the ISA client or proxy client appears in the Address box in the Proxy server area of the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box in Internet Explorer.
If all else fails, then you’ll need to contact the Microsoft Business Solutions Technical Support for help.
