I’m pleased to announce that the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 adapter for BizTalk Server now supports BizTalk Server 2009 and the updated adapter is available for immediate public download:
What is it?
The Microsoft® BizTalk® Server Adapter for Microsoft Dynamics® CRM 4.0 provides the following operations:
1. Availability of Microsoft Dynamics CRM as a send Adapter
2. Discovery and usage of actions/entities schemas for different Microsoft Dynamics CRM organizations.
Users can utilize the above capabilities of the adapter to connect Microsoft Dynamics CRM to other applications via BizTalk server using the BizTalk server orchestration/mapping capabilities.
What’s Changed
In response to the release of BizTalk Server 2009 earlier this year, we have updated the Dynamics CRM 4.0 adapter to support multiple versions of BizTalk Server, including 32- and 64-bit versions of :
- BizTalk Server 2006
- BizTalk Server 2006 R2
- BizTalk Server 2009
In addition to adding official support for BizTalk Server 2009, we have also made changes to improve support for ongoing servicing of the Dynamics CRM 4.0 adapter. Please note that these changes do require any previous versions of the Dynamics CRM 4.0 adapter to be uninstalled before the new version is applied and configured.
What’s Next
The English version of the adapter and updated documentation is available now. Updates for the localized versions of the adapter and documentation will be available before the end of September 2009 from the same download location. Please note that until the localized updates are available, the non-English languages on the download page will continue to point to the previous version of the adapter to facilitate international customers who have deployed BizTalk 2006-based environments. As with the previous version of the adapter, we will be providing localized versions for the following languages:

- Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan)
- Danish
- Dutch

F.A.Q.
Q: Does this update include support for multiple organizations and internet-facing deployments?
A: Yes – all of the core functionality of the adapter has been maintained as part of the update.
Q: Does the adapter support installation on 64-bit environments?
A: Yes. The adapter can be installed on both 32- and 64-bit operating environments.
Q: Does this update include support for installation on redundant BizTalk servers (such as a load-balanced configuration)?
A: Not at this time. Support for multi-server installs will be considered for future updates of the Dynamics CRM 4.0 adapter.
Q: Can the new version of the adapter be used to connect with Dynamics CRM 3.0?
A: No. Customers that wish to integrate their Dynamics CRM 3.0 deployment into a BizTalk environment should use the Dynamics CRM 3.0 adapter located here. Please note that the 3.0 adapter can also connect to a single-organization Dynamics CRM 4.0 server, but does not support BizTalk Server 2009 and does not support native Dynamics CRM 4.0 functionality such as multiple organizations or internet-facing deployments.
Q: Who should can I contact if I have a customer issue with the Dynamics CRM 4.0 adapter?
A: As with previous updates of the Dynamics CRM 4.0 adapter, support for adapter-specific issues is being provided through the mainline Dynamics CRM Support team. Customer issues, hotfix requests, and escalations will be handled via published servicing guidelines.
