Microsoft Dynamics 365 Blog

We recently had a request to know if the recently released Cumulative Update 1 (CU-1) can be “slipstreamed” as part of  new installation of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 (AX2012). So traditionally, in previous years if you wanted to build a new set of AX servers running the latest Hotfix Rollup Update (RU), you will for example install Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 and after the install completes install the latest RU.Now with AX2012, you can automate the process of installing a cumulative update as part of the install.

To create a slipstream install extract the contents of the Cumulative Update (e.g. extract CU-1 self-extracting package DynamicsAX2012-KB2579565.EXE) into a subdirectory on the installation image under the “Updates” directory (i.e. .\Updates\KB2579565\<extracted contents>).

Please note only Cumulative Updates for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 are supported for slipstream, other type of hotfixes will need to be installed manually as per the fix instructions..

Then when you run setup.exe to install AX2012 Components, under the Ready to install page you will see the fix listed

and depending on whether you are deploying the models or not, it will show you the syp layer models that will also be deployed:
