Updated Whitepaper – Optimizing and Maintaining a Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server Infrastructure

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM Enterprise Content Team is pleased to announce the latest release of the white paper Optimizing and Maintaining a Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server Infrastructure, which is available for download here or accessible online via TechNet.

What’s New in this Release?

Primary updates include new information about optimizing the performance of:

  • Queries against large datasets. For Microsoft Dynamics CRM business solutions that include an entity with a large dataset, record retrieval and grid rendering performance can be negatively impacted for users that do not have global access to all records associated with that entity. If there are significant differences in the levels of performance experienced by users with global access and users with more restricted access, consider modifying one or more system settings to ensure an optimal experience for all users.

Of particular note is a change in default behavior of the EnableRetrieveMultipleOptimization setting, which with UR 10 is now dynamic instead of providing a one-size-fits-all solution for all entities.  The query structure can change    dynamically now based on number of records for the entity and number of records shared to the user.

  • Quick Find queries. Ensuring that Quick Find queries perform optimally requires defining the column or set of columns to be used in a Quick Find query, and then ensuring that a non-clustered index is in place for each of those columns. When creating Quick Find searches with performance in mind, there are several best practices and recommendations to consider, which are included detailed in the latest version of the server optimization paper includes additional detail to help your ensure that queries perform optimally in your business environment.
