Announcing a Major Update to RapidStart Services Online Help

We have published a major expansion of the Help available for Microsoft Dynamics ERP RapidStart Services on TechNet.

RapidStart Services is one of the services available from Online Services for Microsoft Dynamics.

RapidStart Services lets partners and customers configure Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 by using a cloud-based, interview-style questionnaire. The questionnaire uses general terminology about business processes instead of terms that are specific to Microsoft Dynamics AX. Partners, independent software vendors (ISVs), and customers can create, maintain, and reuse configurations that reflect their custom solutions. Partners can also create additional groups of questions to enlarge the scope of a configuration.

RapidStart Services is scalable and easy to customize to suit the business processes that require configuration. By using RapidStart Services, you can reduce the time and cost of your implementation and include custom extensions in your Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 setup. Additionally, you can give your organization’s business experts control over the design of the setup and improve the overall quality of your implementation.

Previously, the TechNet Help project provided documentation only for the Designer role in RapidStart Services. The Designer creates additional content to support add-ins and solutions that partners or independent software vendors (ISVs) create for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.

With this update, we have provided Help for all other roles in RapidStart Services, as well as information for those who want to learn more about the service, sign up to use the service as a partner or customer, or even take RapidStart Services for a test drive to help decide whether the service is right for their organization.

Help is also provided for administrators who perform tasks such as these:

  • Create a configuration project that is used to specify the options and records that an organization will load into Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.
  • Assign questions to be answered by business experts in the organization, and monitor their progress to ensure that assigned deadlines are met.
  • Import metadata from a Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and load completed configuration data back into Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.

Guidance is also provided for business experts in the organization who are assigned to answer configuration questions.
