Sometimes during an AX 2012 R2 In-Place upgrade, when running the Setup for Database components to split the model store into a new database and apply the new R2 models; you may get the following error “An item with the same key has already been added”.

If you get this error please follow the steps below:

1) Contact Microsoft Dynamics AX support and request the following hot-fix: KB 2826846

2) If not already done so, copy the contents of your AX 2012 R2 CD to a local folder or network share.

3) Using Windows Explore, go to the “Updates” folder under the copied CD…

4) Create a folder under here called “KB2826846”, as below…

5) Extract/Unzip the hot-fix you downloaded in step 1, into this folder, as seen below…

6) Run the AX 2012 R2 Setup.exe (located in the root of the CD). You will be prompted to update the “Setup Support Files”, and you will also see confirmation that the update will also be applied; as in the screenshot below…

7) Once the setup support files have been updated, and before continuing with the Database component setup, go to the following folder “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\SetupSupport”, and check the properties of file “AXUtilLib.dll”. It should now have a version of 6.2.1000.644, as below…

8) If the file version is equal to 6.2.1000.644 or above, then please continue with the Database component setup to split the model store and apply the R2 models. If not then check the steps above to ensure that the hot-fix is applied correctly.
