Improve access to health services with a “No Wrong Door” approach

People in need of health services through city, county, or local agencies may also be using social services. So health and human services providers want to make sure that intake and referral for health services is streamlined across multiple agencies and departments. The idea being that no matter where people enter the system, they can easily gain access to medical services. This is part of the intention behind the “No Wrong Door” policy that’s included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA).

To accomplish this aim, health and human services providers need to have a 360-degree view of the medical and social services that a person is receiving—or seeking to receive—and connect intake and referral processes across those services. Taking this type of citizen-centric approach simplifies administrative processes that have traditionally required individuals to navigate through a complex environment on their own—often having to complete multiple and sometimes repetitive applications. In other words, it helps provide easier, faster access to health services and enhances customer service for some of the most vulnerable populations.

To help health and human services providers enable a system with a single point of entry, Microsoft, Mid-America Consulting Group, and VisionWare have partnered to offer an integrated intake and referral solution. It can help city, county, and local agencies ensure that individuals and families seeking healthcare are referred to the appropriate agencies and services.

The solution provides a single intake application to capture the situational and demographic information needed for most health and social services applications. And it enables a 360-view of service recipients throughout the intake and referral process.

This can optimize enrollment processes and improve program coordination within and across government and private agencies. Health and human services providers can also gain a clearer understanding of their community’s needs through business intelligence, analysis, and reporting.
