Open Source Blog

When it comes to visuals, Power BI is open BI! The built-in visuals for the Power BI platform are all open source — you can create your own visuals, as well as find an active community that creates and shares Power BI visuals.
They’re all built on current web standards such as HTML5 and CSS3, and they use the open source D3.js JavaScript library for bringing data to life. This means that Power BI works on a wide range of browsers and devices and there’s a huge gallery of visuals that you can freely download and use, so you can quickly create or find the custom visuals you need to cover any common business scenario. To learn more, check out this blog post.
To find out more about how to write your own custom visuals, or to look at the source code of the existing ones, check out the PowerBI-visuals project on GitHub and watch the below tutorial. Let us know what you think in the comments.
