SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 3 is now available

The SQL Server team is excited to bring you the third service pack release for SQL Server 2014. This service pack is now available for download from the Microsoft Download Center as well as the Microsoft Update Catalog, Microsoft Developer Network, Microsoft Evaluation Center, MBS Partner Source, and the Volume Licensing Service Center. As part of our commitment to software excellence, this upgrade is available to all customers with existing SQL Server 2014 deployments.

SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 3 (“SP3”) features improvements centered around performance, scalability, and diagnostics based on the feedback from customers and the SQL community. These improvements enable SQL Server 2014 to perform faster and scale out-of-the-box on modern hardware design.

Key aspects of this release include:

  • Improved database backup performance on large memory machines and improved database restore performance for compressed backups
  • Support enhancements for CLONEDATABASE with a new DBCC option and Service Broker support
  • Support enhancements for Showplan XML in scalar user-defined functions and exposed information about memory fractions

This release includes over eight improvements and 21 support and diagnostic enhancements.
