Five can’t-miss Microsoft experiences at Hannover Messe 2016!

HMI blog banner_300Things are busy here at Microsoft as we prepare for one of our most-anticipated events of the year: The Hannover Messe 2016 industrial show, to be held 25-29 April in Hannover, Germany.

As we were last year, Microsoft will be on hand to show the latest innovations that will inspire and empower you to embrace the digital transformation that is disrupting the manufacturing industry today.

The possibility of Industry 4.0 made reality

At Hannover Messe last year, we brought to life some of the innovative digital transformation our customers were driving with Microsoft technology, including the work Fujitsu drove to blend the physical with digital through their smart lettuce project. KUKA Robotics created one of the world’s first showcases to unify IT with robotic technologies into a smart manufacturing solution using the Microsoft IoT platform. Miele showed the power of connecting and communicating to change the way we cook with the Microsoft Azure platform. And Qoros demonstrated how smarter vehicles can deliver new customer experiences using Azure.

These solutions illustrated the true potential of digital transformation. And the opportunity continues to grow. IDC says the market for manufacturing will by $913 billion by 2018. And with 14 billion connected devices, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) will represent a $10.6 trillion impact. According to the American Society for Quality, manufacturers are already realizing revenue increases of more than 16 percent in areas of their businesses where they are implementing IoT technology and ecosystems of intelligence.

The potential is truly unlimited for manufacturers who choose to disrupt, differentiate, and excel.

Intelligence at the forefront

At Hannover Messe this year, we will build on this momentum to show how intelligence is now taking center stage to create new business ecosystems that improve the way we work and live. We’ve talked about how, in order to truly understand the value of IIoT in manufacturing, we need to have a holistic view that includes the Internet of things, people and services.

Now we see this concept coming to the forefront as we move beyond interconnected services, people, and things to use technology to gain valuable business insights. Insights that can help manufacturers create business value, and in many cases, new products or service offerings for their customers. Microsoft is uniquely positioned to help manufacturers accelerate this transformation by using new information to define and implement innovative practices and business processes.

At Hannover Messe 2016, we will demonstrate how these new, intelligent ecosystems are emerging to accelerate business value. Here are five experiences you won’t want to miss:

Hear from global leaders

The importance of Industry 4.0 has elevated to the global stage. For the first time, the United States is the partner country to Germany for Hannover Messe, and U.S. President Barack Obama will help to open the event on 24 April. He will join German Chancellor Angela Merkel to tour the fair on 25 April to witness Industry 4.0 in action.

Our own manufacturing and technology experts will be on hand, along with our customers and partners, to immerse you in hands-on IoT experiences and meet one-on-one with you to discuss intelligent solutions for your specific business needs.

There will be a lot of surprises in our booth this year! I am blown away by the showcases we have lined up to show you the depth of innovation we are driving with our customers and partners. You will experience real-life industry 4.0 scenarios across every stage of the journey to a digital business: from production operations and industrial services examples that show how to connect your people to the right information so they can manage assets and operational processes in real time; to marketing, sales and customer experience solutions that demonstrate how to deliver context-specific rich consumer experiences and services using IoT, big data, social, cloud, mobility, and natural user interfaces; to research, development and engineering use cases that help you learn how to increase the speed of product innovation with on-demand cloud computing power, secure and traceable collaboration, and mobile design engineering productivity. You can find us in the Digital Factory, Hall 7, booth #C40.

Get hands-on with IoT in our new Maker Lab

Also, while you are in our booth, be sure to visit our IoT Maker Lab to get hands-on with the latest technologies. Experience how IoT can empower your business for success through exciting scenarios that walk you through the process step by step. You will get firsthand experience with establishing a simple end-to-end IoT experience by connecting a device to the cloud and subsequently analyzing and visualizing the device data to derive insights and actions. In addition, our device bar will feature the latest and greatest devices, including Surface and Surface Hub, that will show you how to improve information workflow and machine-human interactions.

Explore how to create an intelligent manufacturing ecosystem

The OPC Foundation, of which Microsoft is a proud member, has led the path in industrial automation to create an open and standardized ecosystem of equipment manufacturers and software vendors to help manage and control machinery and production by establishing out-of-the-box interoperability across the manufacturing value chain. In the presence of cloud technologies, IT and OT are now coming together for the first time and protocols are taking a new shape to create an intelligent manufacturing ecosystem. In our booth, you will be able to watch your peers using OPC-UA on Microsoft technologies. You will experience industrial automation demos from your hardware vendors of choice who are already using Microsoft-based OPC-UA in their offerings, and you will learn the easiest and fastest way to connect your OPC-compliant devices to Azure.

Learn from your peers and industry experts at our Speaker’s Corner

Our Speaker’s Corner offers an exciting way for you to learn directly from your peers, industry experts and Microsoft leaders and partners through tangible, real-life business examples. See how other companies like yours are driving digital innovation and are experiencing fantastic results with Microsoft’s IoT capabilities. The full schedule of sessions and speakers will be updated here, so check back often.

Meet 1:1 to explore your digital possibilities

After you have toured our Industry 4.0 scenarios, technology demonstrations, and learned from your colleagues, then we encourage you to meet with Microsoft leaders to discuss specific ways of designing your digital transformation path. You can schedule a one-on-one briefing with Microsoft executives, product team leads, industry experts, and sponsoring partners to get started on your business transformation. Work with your account manager to let us know your area of interest and we will propose a customized briefing for you. We would be pleased to offer you a complimentary visitor’s pass so you may plan your meeting at a day and time of your convenience.

I’ve given you five experiences at Hannover Messe 2016 that we recommend you do not miss. But I have only scratched the surface of the tremendous business value you will receive by attending this important event.

So don’t be left behind! Make sure that Hannover Messe is part of your April travel plans and a meeting with Microsoft is on your schedule.

I look forward to meeting you there.
